A 31-Hour Matisse Marathon: An All-Night Closing Celebration

Professor Bob Amundson introduces the genre of la Nouvelle Vague, or French New Wave, cinema and investigates its roots in film noir of the 1940s and 50s. Dr. Amundson will discuss the impact of the films of Fritz Lang, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, and Billy Wilder on groundbreaking French directors such as François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard. Classics of Nouvelle Vague cinema will be shown throughout the night in Horchow Auditorium.
